Senior Vice President & Chief Development Officer, Foundation
Winifred “Winnie” Johnson serves as the Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer for Mission Hospital Foundation. In 1995, Mission Hospital joined the St. Joseph Health and Johnson was brought on board to build a Foundation and Foundation Board of Directors to support the hospital’s needs. Johnson subsequently led the Foundation and the St. Joseph Health in developing a culture of philanthropy, known as “the Spirit of Giving” to encourage all expressions of giving -- “bringing people together to foster a shared responsibility for the quality of life in our community.”
With more than 30 years of leadership in business development, finance administration and fundraising experience, Johnson successfully recruited prominent business and community leaders to join the Foundation Board of Directors. Together, they inspired a solid legacy of giving in the community culminating in the successful completion of the Foundation’s $50 million campaign for hospital expansion.
Due to the success of its fundraising, the Mission Hospital Foundation has been nationally recognized by fundraising and hospital professional organizations and Johnson is frequently asked to share best practices with other hospitals and foundations around the country. Among her many accolades and accomplishments, she was honored with the Foundation’s Sister Martha Ann Fitzpatrick Vision Award for her exemplary role in leading the Foundation’s success in developing relationships and raising funds. She believes that her vocation is a calling and is passionate about making a difference in the lives of patients, volunteers, employees and donors.
