Mission Hospital Partners with Access OC to Provide Underserved Patients With Needed Surgeries


With the help of nurses and techs, and volunteer surgeonsandanesthesiologists, MissionHospital and Access OC were ble to create a memorable one-day event thatleft a positive mark on the underserved community.

Mission Viejo, CA - In partnership with AccessOC, Mission Hospital provided free surgeries to nearly 15underserved community members on Saturday, September 12th.These patients were able to begin a new phase of their life by receiving critical surgeries at no charge.

The day began with a welcome from the Vice President of Mission Integration, Cindy Mueller, followed by a blessing of the patients. Breakfast was then provided for the families, while their loved ones were prepared for their respective surgeries.

On the Saturday Super Surgery day, hernias and cysts were removed,andtonsillectomies and other medical procedures were performed to improve the health of people in the local communities.

One of the patients, Wesley Case, is a 49-year-old man who saw his life drastically improve because of Mission Hospital and AccessOC’s commitment to care. After suffering from a painful ventral hernia for 25 years, Case feels very blessed he had access to a surgery that not only strengthened his back muscles and diminished his overall pain, but also completely changed his life.

“It’s very rewarding to see how we can make a difference in our community,” said Christy Cornwall, Mission Hospital Director of Community Benefit. “By offering up our facilities and having so many skilled and willing people participate in the event, we are extending our healing ministry to care for our community.”
