Mission Hospital Trauma Center Receives Level II Verification from the Verification Review Committee, Ad Hoc Committee of the Committee of Trauma of the American College of Surgeons

Mission Viejo, CA – The trauma center at Mission Hospital has been verified as a Level II Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee (VRC), an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This achievement recognizes the trauma center’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients. By receiving this certification, Mission Hospital continues fulfilling its promise to provide patients with exceptional care, putting meaning behind its dedication to improve the health and quality of life of people in the communities it serves. Mission Hospital has sustained Level II Trauma Center status since 1980 and is the first and only designated Regional Trauma Center in south Orange County.

The COT’s Consultation/Verification Program for Hospitals identified Mission Hospital’s Trauma Center as not only a hospital that provides the resources necessary for trauma care, but also for the entire spectrum of care to address the needs of all injured patients.

Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensures trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma in its current Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient manual.

The ACS Committee on Trauma’s verification program provides confirmation that Mission Hospital’s Trauma Center has demonstrated its commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for all injured patients.

Some of the commendations mentioned by the American College of Surgeons include the implementation of revolutionary changes with the newly hired trauma team which revolve around clinical patient care and process improvements, all under the highly effective leadership provided by the new trauma medical director, Almaas A. Shaikh, MD FACS.

“It continues to be my privilege to lead Mission Hospital Trauma Services. Obtaining the American College of Surgeon’s re-verification as a Level II Trauma Center recognizes our dedicated commitment to provide optimal trauma care when the community need us the most” comments Mission Hospital’s trauma medical director Dr. Almaas Shaikh. “When seconds count, count on Mission Hospital Trauma.”
