New option for patient population resistant to traditional treatment

March 9, 2017, Mission Viejo, CA – Mission Hospital, in collaboration with The Ketamine Wellness Clinic of Orange County, has developed the Mission Hospital Laguna Beach Ketamine Clinic to offer ketamine infusions as an option for treatment resistant depression as well as other neuropsychiatric and pain disorders.

“Mission Hospital has always been dedicated to leading initiatives in support of Mental Health & Wellness,” said Michael Beck chief administration officer at Mission Hospital Laguna Beach. “This is one way of carrying out our mission of continually improving the health and quality of life of people in the communities we serve,” added Beck.

Ketamine is a glutamate N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDA-R) antagonist which has been widely used in the field of anesthesiology for many decades. It is a US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved sedative medicine, and can be found on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines. Used as infusion therapy, ketamine can alleviate some of the debilitating aspects of chronic mental health diseases such as Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Bipolar Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Fibromyalgia, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and Neuropathic Pain. Research shows that ketamine produces a rapid antidepressant effect, and can also put a quick end to suicidal thinking.

The Mission Hospital Laguna Beach Ketamine Clinic offers ketamine infusions in a safe, relaxed, state of the art facility by board certified physicians specializing in the delivery of ketamine. In addition, a registered nurse, specialized in mental health, will care for each and every clinic patient.

“This is a unique collaboration between a hospital system and a ketamine clinic during a time when mental health is one of the most challenging issues facing our communities today,” says Dr. Dan Hancock, MD, medical director of the Ketamine Wellness Clinic of Orange County. “We’re able to provide another avenue to treat the patient population that is traditionally resistant to other forms of treatment.”

The Mission Hospital Laguna Beach Ketamine Clinic is located in Laguna Beach at 31872 Coast Highway Room 1-202, and can be reached by phone at (949) 499-7500.
