More than 625 guests attended Mission Hospital's14th annual black-tie gala at the St. Regis Monarch Beach on December 19, 2009, raising net proceeds of nearly $900,000 for the hospital.
Attending the gala on behalf of Title Sponsor Nolet Spirits USA -- the Nolet Family was Janet and Carl Nolet, Jr., Corry Nolet, and Kim and Bill Eldien. This was their fourth year as Title Sponsor.
The evening began with a cocktail reception featuring a spectacular Ketel One martini bar sculptured entirely of ice and a silent auction that featured travel packages, sports memorabilia, jewelry, and a "Super Silent Auction Item"-a 2010 Mazda 6s Grand Touring car donated by Mazda North American Operations.
As the guests entered the ballroom for dinner, they enjoyed a beautiful performance by professional ballroom dancers from Wayne Foster Entertainment. Gala Chairs, Lynn Maioriello and Pat Lindner formally welcomed the guests, thanked the top sponsors and presented a beautiful family portrait to the Nolet family that was painted by artist Zoey Stevens.
Guests then watched a special video on the community's "Spirit of Giving" to Mission Hospital. An introduction by Carl Nolet, Jr. urged the gala guests to "join him in supporting Mission Hospital's healthcare ministry so that everyone has access to world-class healthcare when they need it the most."
The video featured interviews with some of Mission Hospital's most generous donors who expressed why their Spirit of Giving to the hospital was meaningful to them and messages of gratitude from former patients and family members for the lifesaving care they received. Mission Hospital's President and Chief Executive Officer Peter F. Bastone shared the exciting changes happening at Mission including the opening of the new four-story Patient Care Tower on the Mission Viejo campus and the addition of a second campus in Laguna Beach to extend care to the coastal communities: "The reason that we are here looking at this beautiful tower and looking at our master plan into the future is because of the commitment of an extraordinary community that ties itself and aligns itself with our vision of ministry and caring for our dear neighbor. That's why Mission Hospital is where it is right now."
One of the highlights of the evening was the live auction which generated a lot of competitive bidding. One of the items available for bid included a home-cooked Italian dinner for ten prepared by Mission's President and CEO. The bidding was so competitive that the auctioneer ended up with three winning bids. Other exciting items included trips to Paris, Prague and Ireland, a round of golf with PGA pro Scott McCarron and drinks with Arnold Palmer and wine tasting in Napa.
After a gourmet dinner, guests made their way to the dance floor for one of the highlights of the evening--dancing. Wayne Foster Entertainment featured a live band, and numerous singers and professional dancers who mingled with the guests and passed out fun props such as hats, boas and blinking necklaces. They even invited a few brave revelers to the stage to join the band.
