17th Annual Valiant Women Luncheon Raises over $245,000 for Women’s Services at Mission Hospital

MISSION VIEJO, CA – Mission Hospital's 17th Annual Valiant Women Luncheon hosted over

560 guests on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the St. Regis Monarch Beach. The event raised record-breaking net proceeds of over $245,000 for Women's Services at Mission Hospital including Mission Women's Wellness Center, improvements at Mission Maternity Center, and advanced nursing education/scholarships for

Mission Hospital nurses. The success of the Luncheon, which exceeded last year's proceeds by $55,000, was due in large part from the support of Title Sponsor Seabreeze Management Company, Inc. and CEO Lisa Dale and Runway Sponsor West Coast University and American Career College. Event efforts were led by Valiant Women Board Chair Kathleen Krogius and Fashion Show Chair Terri Owcarz. The fundraising luncheon included a silent auction, luxury opportunity drawing packages (valued at up to $4,700), and a runway fashion show modeled by Mission Hospital's nurses and affiliated physicians wearing clothing and accessories from retailers at The Shops at Mission Viejo.

During the luncheon, Mission Hospital's President and Chief Executive Officer Kenneth D. McFarland thanked the members of Valiant Women and their guests for their part in making the event such a success: "Thanks to your efforts over the past 17 years, more than one million dollars has been raised to benefit women's services at Mission such as Mission Maternity Center and the Women's Wellness Center and to provide nursing scholarships. In fact, some of our nurses who are modeling today are grateful recipients of these scholarships." McFarland also shared that all philanthropic dollars raised are part of a larger comprehensive campaign called Mission500 that will fund expansion at Mission Hospital's two campuses, including a Neuroscience and Spine Institute, state-of-the-art technology and an endowment to invest in future needs and nursing education.

The program also featured an inspiring story by former patient and Mission Hospitalphilanthropist Susan Morrison who spoke about her gratitude for the compassionate and specialized level of care she received from her nurses and physicians at Mission during her recent traumatic car accident. Susan's heartfelt message was followed by a video showcasing several of Mission Hospital's top nurses who spoke about why their profession makes a difference in the community. Mission Hospital nurse Charity Holmes shared, "Being able to see patients come in such a vulnerable state and caring for them so they can go back to their normal every day activities… that is why I come to work every day." The video also highlighted Mission Hospital's recent designation as a Magnet facility--the gold standard for nursing excellence and a status that only 6% of hospitals in the United States have achieved.

Following the video presentation, Dr. Barry Ryan, President and CEO of West Coast University, introduced the fashion show which featured Mission Hospital nurses and affiliated physicians as models. Clothing and accessories were provided by Ann Taylor, Caché, Fossil, Lorna Jane, Macy's, Tommy Bahama, White House | Black Market, all from The Shops at Mission Viejo. Makeup was provided by MAC Cosmetics and hairstyling was provided by Toni & Guy, both from The Shops at Mission Viejo.

In addition to Seabreeze Management Company, Inc.'s and Lisa Dale's generous Spirit of Giving as Title Sponsor, the 2013 luncheon was supported by Runway Sponsor: West Coast University and American Career College; Presenting Sponsors: Cindi Grace and Steve Camp; Tim and Jill Harmon; The Kozlowicz Family; Mission Hospital's Executive Team; Chereen and Larry Pasternack; and The Shops at Mission Viejo; Valiant Sponsors: Antis Roofing & Waterproofing, Inc.; Rachel Miller of The Miller Law Firm; Monex - Michael and Vicky Carabini; Tom and Margarita Solazzo; and The Young Family.

Proceeds from the 2013 Valiant Women Luncheon support three important areas that impact women's health:

• Women's Services at Mission including the Women's Wellness Center - a 15,000- square-foot outpatient facility offering a comprehensive array of healthcare and wellness services for women.

• Mission Maternity Center – newly redesigned to provide a warm and inviting environment for new moms, providing a comfortable and beautiful setting for the most special time in a woman's life.

• The Nursing Center of Excellence - With a nation-wide nursing shortage, this program is crucial to attracting and retaining excellent nurses at Mission--providing them with state-of-the-art training and professional development.
