Valiant Women Luncheon Chair Terri Owcarz and Vice Chair Chereen Pasternack welcomed nearly 600 people to the 18th Annual Valiant Women Luncheon on March 21. More than $235,000 was raised in support of Mission Hospital Women's Wellness Center, Nursing Center of Excellence, Nursing Scholarship Endowment and Nursing Scholarship Program. The overwhelming success of the event is attributed to more than one thousand inspired sponsors, in-kind donors, Board and Committee members, event attendees and volunteers.
Thanks to the generosity of Valiant Women and the funds raised by the Luncheon, Mission Hospital will join an exclusive group of medical centers this spring by providing breast tomosynthesis, also known as 3D mammography. Breast tomosynthesis provides a clearer, more accurate view of the breast and allows doctors to more effectively pinpoint the size, shape and location of any abnormalities. The result is better detection, increased accuracy and greater peace of mind.
“This event brings Valiant Women together from across our community to celebrate women and celebrate life,” said Terri Owcarz Valiant Women Luncheon Chair and member since 2004. “Over the last 18 years Valiant Women has raised more than $1.5 million to enhance and support women’s services at Mission Hospital,” Terri said.
The event was made possible through the generous support of Presenting Sponsor Seabreeze Management Company, Runway Sponsor The Shops at Mission Viejo, and premier sponsors: Cindi Grace and Steve Camp, Tim and Jill Harmon, the Kozlowicz family, Mission Hospital Executive Team, Chereen and Larry Pasternack, West Coast University, Antis Roofing and Waterproofing, Kasdan Simonds Weber & Vaughan, The Miller Law Firm, Monex, Tom and Margarita Solazzo, Nancy Williams, the Young family and Media Sponsor Orange Coast Magazine.
One of the highlights of the Luncheon was a fashion show. A spirited team of Mission Hospital doctors and nurses served as models showcasing spring designs from retailers at The Shops at Mission Viejo, including Ann Taylor, Brighton, Cache, Fossil, Lorna Jane, Macy’s, Tommy Bahama and White House | Black Market. Hair styling and makeup was provided by Toni & Guy.
As part of the celebration, Valiant Women Board Chair Kathleen Krogius honored the seven founding members of Valiant Women: Gaye Birtcher, Susan Goldberg, Winnie Johnson, Julie Malvey, Patti Messerschmitt, Betty Sarian and Maureen Sullivan. “We thank these amazing women for their thoughtful leadership in establishing this dynamic group in 1996 to support the women of our community when they need us most,” said Kathleen Krogius.
