Volunteer Opportunities

Auxiliary Adult Volunteers

The Auxiliary of Mission Hospital, a nonprofit charity organization, supports Mission Hospital by being the main source of volunteer support with many volunteer positions that provide service and support to patients, visitors and staff, but does not do direct patient care.

We sincerely appreciate your consideration to volunteer at Mission Hospital. We value our volunteers and their commitment of their time, talent and service. Volunteering at Mission Hospital is a wonderful way to give back to your community. We are currently accepting applications for positions at both our campuses for the departments listed below:

Mission Viejo campus:

  • Campus Guide
  • Gift Shop
  • Emergency Department

Laguna Beach campus:

  • Reception Desk
  • Gift Shop

Please click here if you are a high school student interested in becoming a volunteer at either Mission Hospital campus.

Mission Hospital is proud to have volunteering options available to college students majoring in pre-pharmacy, speech, occupational or physical therapy. On your application, please indicate your major in question number two when you answer where you are studying. For college students with other majors, but are still interested in volunteering in the health care field, please visit www.copehealthscholars.org, that offers hands-on experience working with physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.

Spiritual Care Volunteers

We are pleased to offer a spiritual care training consisting of 30 hours of education (classroom and mentored patient visiting) to become a spiritual care volunteer at Mission Hospital. All are invited to participate in this community service course.

These sessions will cover the following topics:

  • Listening and responding appropriately to patients dealing with illness and loss

  • Developing empathy, rather than sympathy, with role playing to develop patient visiting skills

  • Acting as an interfaith spiritual care worker, respecting the individual religious convictions of patients, rather than preaching or trying to convert

  • Visiting patients and receiving feedback on the quality of the visits

  • Observing health and safety precautions, as well as guidelines for visiting

Applicants must be people of generosity and compassion, and believe that spirituality is a necessary part of patient care. Those who successfully complete the training will receive a Spiritual Care Volunteer Certificate. Upon graduation, applicants must commit to 100 hours of patient visits, annually.
