Chief of Staff
Emergency Department physician, Richard Kozak, M.D., currently serves as Chief of Staff at Mission Hospital. Nominated by his peers and voted into office by active medical staff, Dr. Kozak will serve his term through December 2009.
As Chief, Dr. Kozak is the chairperson of the Medical Executive Committee (MEC) and leader of the medical staff. Dr. Kozak is a full-time attending in the emergency department at Mission Hospital and has been a member of the active staff for twelve years. In addition to his Chief of Staff duties, he continues to serve as the Paramedic Base Hospital Medical Director. Dr. Kozak chairs the Regional Paramedic Advisory Committee for Mission and CHOC Children's at Mission Hospital where he is responsible for paramedic oversight, policy, and procedures for south Orange County. Dr. Kozak is a leader in disaster and biohazard preparedness, guiding the medical team during on-campus emergency drills.
Dr. Kozak is a Diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine. He is an active member of several professional organizations including the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine. He received his Doctorate of Medicine (1991) from and completed his residency (1994) at University of California, Irvine (UCI)
