Physician BioDr. Schiffman, originally from New York, graduated from Hobart College in 1976 with High Honors. Moving west to Chicago, initially to attend instrument building school, he attended Rush Medical College where he attained his Medical Doctorate degree. He was elected to the National Medical Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha. His Internal Medicine residency at University Of California, Irvine was completed in 1985. His Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowhip was completed in 1987 at the UCI/VA Long Beach. He has been affiliated with Mission Internal Medicine since 1987.
He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. He was instrumental in the formation of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Education Program (PREP) at Mission Hospital and has been the medical director since its inception. This program has been recognized by experts in the field as one of the best available for the management of chronic lung disease. He has played an active role in the Critical Care Director at Mission Hospital. Recently, he initiated the state of the art program of hypothermia after cardiac arrest to the Orange county community, a method a preserving neurologic function after this cardiac insult. In 2009, he was named to Orange Coast Magazine’s “Top Doctor” Award, the only adult pulmonary, critical care doctor to receive this recognition in that year.
His interests include asthma, COPD, Pulmonary Rehabilition, critical care, and sleep medicine. He lives with his wife in Laguna Beach. In his spare time, enjoys spending time with family, playing guitar, exercise, and most notably, guitar building.
