As one of the busiest labor and delivery programs in the area, The Mission Hospital Maternity Center helps bring an average of 3,000+ new babies into the world each year. That’s more than any other hospital in all of south Orange County! We know reason is rooted in our philosophy of care. At Mission Hospital, we have advanced facilities, offer around-the-clock availability from our attentive medical staff, and are passionate about the level of patient care we provide. Our labor and delivery staff take pride in the quality of support and service they provide, focusing on the unique needs of each baby, mother, and loved one connected to the process. The skilled nursing staff at our center react quickly in emergencies, provide compassionate guidance when needed, and offer personalized care that makes the birth of each baby special.
We also offer an array of pre-birth classes, pain management options, follow-up programs, and specialized care for high-risk pregnancy to ensure that each pregnancy and delivery are as joyful and memorable as possible. Our primary goal is to constantly incorporate “best practices” among our health care team, ensuring the highest quality care is provided in the safest and most comforting environment for these precious new lives.

Our maternity education programs offers a wide variety of educational classes to prepare mothers and families for the arrival of a new baby. All classes are geared towards promoting an environment that is healthy for babies, parents, and loved ones. These are expert, dedicated, and specially trained nurses, whose priority is the safe and joyful arrival of each baby. Mission Hospital Labor and Delivery and Obstetric nurse’s average over 20 years of experience and are committed to providing compassionate care to reach optimum outcomes and ensure patient satisfaction. Over 40% of our nurses are specially trained with advanced certification in fetal monitoring and inpatient obstetric care. Our nurses and physicians work together to manage complex medical conditions that can arise in pregnant women.
All unit nurses are also required to complete and maintain advanced certifications under Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). In addition, Mission Hospital received the Magnet Recognition Program Award from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for excellence in nursing services.
This March of Dimes initiative began at Mission Hospital on July 1, 2013 and provides mandatory screening for all newborns to identify critical congenital heart disease. Within the first nine days of screening, we identified our first critical case of congenital heart disease. Our goal is to help provide early medical care and solutions for these infants.
As a certified Baby Friendly™ Hospital, we are a member of a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to encourage and recognize hospitals that offer an optimum level of care for lactation. This designation is quite an honor, as only 243 U.S. hospitals and birthing centers in 46 states and the District of Columbia hold the Baby Friendly designation.
Mission Hospital knows that pregnancy and motherhood are exciting times filled with joy, new challenges and even uncertainty. That's why we created Solutions, a warm, caring place where mothers and moms-to-be can turn.
It is located in the Mission Women’s Wellness Center, and has everything you need to support your transition to breastfeeding, such as nursing bras, breast pumps, and other supplies. You can learn more about Solutions on our website.
