Regional Trauma Center

Advanced Care

As a Level II trauma facility, Mission Hospital is prepared to address the most critical cases immediately and we maintain everything necessary to treat life-threatening injuries around the clock.

Our dedicated trauma specialists handle approximately 1,000 traumas each year in our Gotschall Family Trauma Pavilion. Our continuum of care begins with prevention and education and progresses to resuscitation, surgery, critical intensive care and a robust rehabilitation program that helps patients return to healthy, productive lives.

To learn more about Mission Regional Trauma Center, please call us at (877) 459-3627.

Trauma Nurse Care

Unlike many hospitals in which trauma personnel are also charged with emergency room responsibilities, our Trauma Center specialists are completely dedicated to trauma care. We help patients and their families cope with traumatic events by assigning a specially trained nurse who remains with each patient throughout the critical stage of care - providing valuable communication and comfort. Once stabilized, an interdisciplinary team meets weekly to discuss critical treatment and rehabilitative needs to ensure a cohesive treatment plan.

Spiritual Care

Mission Regional Trauma Center offers resources to help deal with difficult issues. Our Spiritual Care program includes a specially trained team of interfaith chaplains who provide emotional and spiritual support to people during crisis situations, fear, grief and loss. A dedicated chaplain is assigned to every trauma patient to help explain to families the process and facility, providing much needed empathy and comfort.

Trauma Outreach Services

Mission Regional Trauma Center and Emergency Department participates in a variety of community programs. For information on any of the following programs, please call (949) 364-7754.

South County Safe Rides

A peer-run program overseen by adult supervisors. Students from numerous local high schools staff a toll-free hotline for teens to call when in need of a ride home due to alcohol, drugs or unsafe date situation. To get involved or for information about volunteering opportunities, please contact Georginne Mercado at (949)-364-1400, ext. 7754.

Youthful Drug and Alcohol Deterrence Program

Sends youths convicted of driving under the influence or minors in possession of alcohol to educational sessions at Mission Regional Trauma Center and the coroner's office.

Crash Proof Your Teen

Presented jointly with the Orange County Sheriff Department, encouraging partnered learning for new teen drivers. A 10-step instruction guide including defensive driving tips is distributed.

Mock Crash

Sometimes called "Every 15 Minutes," this program is a reenactment of an alcohol-related prom night crash presented at high schools with the help of trauma nurses, firefighters, police, paramedics, ambulance technicians and morgue operators.

Safety Talks

Presentations to various organizations, schools and businesses, tailored to fit the audience in relation to age group or needs.
