Brain Injury Center

The Mission Hospital Brain Injury Center has the advanced capabilities and specific training necessary to treat a full spectrum of head injuries, including traumatically injured neurologic patients. 

Response time is vital when a head injury occurs. For this reason, patients are immediately transported to our computed tomography (CT) scanner for evaluation, and if necessary, to an awaiting neurosurgeon within 30 minutes. This immediate diagnosis and response ensure both the immediate and long-term well-being of our patients. 

Leading the Curve

Our Traumatic Brain Injury program was one of the first in the nation to use brain oxygen monitors to better gauge and amend treatments. By advancing our practices and adopting state-of-the-art techniques, the Center boasts a 70 percent positive outcome in the most severe traumatic brain injuries.  This reinforces our belief that being on the forefront of technology and training allows our patients and their families to return to their regular lives sooner.  Nationally-recognized with The Joint Commission's Ernest Amory Codman Award, Mission's TBI program is offered to interested hospitals across the country through the Adam Williams Initiative, which educates clinical teams about our life-enhancing protocols.

Family-Centered Treatment

Advancing care means being sensitive to what will help our patients recuperate more quickly.  We believe that our patients achieve the most complete recovery when their families are closely involved in their care, so we incorporate family members into the treatment program.  Our knowledgeable staff will thoroughly introduce them to our facilities and equipment while familiarizing them with available spiritual care and support options.  We actively involve the patient and family in rehabilitation care planning in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists.  The team helps the patient and family plan for return to home and reintegration back into the community and work.

Concussion Evaluation

Mission Brain Injury Center treats concussions just as seriously as severe brain injuries. Concussions are the most common of head injuries and an estimated 300,000 sports-related minor brain injuries occur in the United States each year. The signs and symptoms of a concussion can be subtle but the effects can result in lifetime disabilities if not treated properly.
