Mission Hospital is dedicated to ministering to the needs of the whole person - body, mind and spirit.
Our spiritual care team is specially trained to provide holistic spiritual care to persons of all religious faiths, including those without any religious affiliation. They are available for pastoral counseling, crisis intervention, prayer, facilitating bioethical decision-making, and bereavement counseling. They will also contact your priest, rabbi, minister or lay minister upon request.
The department consists of interfaith staff chaplains, on-call chaplains and pastoral volunteers. Pastoral volunteers are lay people from the community from a variety of faith traditions. They serve together with the chaplains and are a caring and supportive presence. Volunteers must participate in an initial interview process, and then attend a training program taught by the chaplains. They attend education/support meetings, and are mentored by the chaplains on an ongoing basis.
For our Catholic patients, we have Eucharistic Ministers who bring Holy Communion by request. A priest is available for the Sacrament of the Sick and Sacrament of Reconciliation.
You can reach the spiritual care team 24-hour, 7-days-a-week. Call (949) 364-1400, ext. 5399, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. After hours contact the hospital operator to reach an evening, weekend, or on-call chaplain. An on-call chaplain or priest is available for emergencies through the administrative supervisor.
The Chapel is located on the lower level of the Tower and open 24 hours a day for quiet reflection. There is a Mass or Communion Service at 12 noon Monday through Friday in the Chapel. A weekly prayer group meets every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel. A Healing Mass is offered once a month.
