You can reach the Spiritual Care team by calling (949) 364- 5399, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To reach an evening, weekend or on-call chaplain, please contact the hospital operator at (949)-364-1400.
Team
Our spiritual care team is specially trained to provide holistic spiritual care to persons of all religious faiths, including those without any religious affiliation. They are available for pastoral counseling, crisis intervention, prayer, facilitating bioethical decision-making and bereavement counseling. They will also contact your priest, rabbi, minister or lay minister upon request.
The department consists of interfaith staff chaplains, on-call chaplains and pastoral volunteers. Pastoral volunteers are lay people from the community from a variety of faith traditions. They serve together with the chaplains and are a caring and supportive presence. For our Catholic patients, we have Eucharistic Ministers who bring Holy Communion by request. A priest is available for the Sacrament of the Sick and Sacrament of Reconciliation.
No One Dies Alone
Compassionate companionship for the final hours, our "No One Dies Alone" program ensures that no patient at our hospitals will ever die alone by providing the reassuring presence of a volunteer companion to dying patients who would otherwise have no one else. With the support of the nursing staff, companions can help provide patients with the most valuable gift: a dignified death. Mission Hospital believes in the intrinsic dignity of each person and makes sure someone is there to hold their hand or just keep them company in their final hours.
Chapel
The Chapel on the Mission Viejo campus is currently located on the lower level of Tower 1 and open 24 hours a day for quiet reflection. With the opening of Tower 2, a new Chapel will be available to visitors. There is a Mass or Communion Service at noon Monday through Friday in the Chapel.
The Chapel on the Laguna Beach campus is located off the lobby to the left of the front entrance to the building. Mass is offered on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. This Chapel is also open 24 hours a day. A weekly prayer group meets every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel. A Healing Mass is offered once a month.
