Mission Hospital Promotes Vice President and Chief Development Officer

Winifred "Winnie" Johnson has been promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Developmental Officer for Mission Hospital.

"Winnie's dedication to philanthropy and leadership has been and continues to be integral to the ability of Mission Hospital to bring the most advanced care to our community," said Peter F. Bastone, President and Chief Executive Officer for Mission Hospital. "Because of her leadership, Mission Hospital Foundation's efforts to bring the community together in a shared responsibility for a healthier community, has resulted in unprecedented donor support. We are extremely fortunate to have her in the Mission Hospital family, and are honored to have her as a leader in our organization."

In 1995, Johnson joined Mission Hospital with the task of developing a Foundation and Foundation Board of Directors to support the hospital. Johnson brings more than 30 years of leadership in business development, finance administration and fundraising experience to her position at Mission. Under her leadership, the Foundation has grown to include a 42-member Foundation Board of Directors made up of prominent business and community leaders, highly successful fundraising events, support groups of community members who help raise money and nationally recognized Major Gifts, Annual Giving and Stewardship programs.

Johnson also led the Foundation and the St. Joseph Health in the development of a culture of philanthropy known as the "Spirit of Giving." Over the past fifteen years, the Foundation has raised more than $125 million for hospital expansion projects, including a $50 million capital campaign.

Among her many accolades and accomplishments, Johnson was honored with the Foundation Board's Sister Martha Ann Fitzpatrick Vision Award for her exemplary role in leading the Foundation's success in developing relationships and raising funds. She is frequently asked to share best practices with hospitals and foundations around the country. Her professional affiliations include the Association of health care Philanthropy (AHP), Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and Southern California Association for Healthcare Development (SCHAD).
