Mission Hospital’s Back to School Angels Program Creates
Back to School Smiles
Mission Hospital employees follow in the footsteps of the Sisters of St.
Joseph of Orange, helping to improve the health and quality of life in
south Orange County.
Mission Viejo, CA – Seventy local students will start the school year with new backpacks, clothing
and school supplies thanks to Mission Hospital’s Back to School
Hospital employees from 43 departments across the Mission Viejo and Laguna
Beach campuses donated hundreds of items to properly equip youth for the
school year. Donations included everything from backpacks, calculators,
pens, paper, erasers and staplers to shoes, pants, shorts, shirts, socks
and coats. One department even donated a bicycle.
“We created the Back to School Angels Program based on a critical
need for support,” shares Mission Hospital Director of Community
Benefit Christy Cornwall. “The beginning of the school year can
be an expensive time for families, and as employees we want to help support
the most vulnerable members of our community.”
The program illustrates the commitment of Mission Hospital employees to
the tradition of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, by helping to improve
the health and quality of life in south Orange
County. These donated items not only reduce the financial burden, but they
bring dignity to the underserved and inspire students to excellence.
Students in need were identified through Mission Hospital’s Family
Resource Centers. The Family Resource Centers bring together services
and activities that educate, support and provide resources for families
in need. Programs include parent, teen and child education classes, support
groups, counseling services, and information/resources.
