Corporate Partners Award Event Highlights
Mission Hospital Corporate Partners recently gathered at Monarch Beach
Resort to recognize George O’Connell and O’Connell Landscape
Maintenance for their philanthropic leadership with the Spirit of Giving
Award. The award celebrates an organization or individual who lives the
core values of Mission Hospital - Dignity, Service, Excellence and Justice
- and works to bring people together to foster a shared responsibility
for the quality of life in our community.
George O’Connell has been an engaged member of the Mission Hospital
family for more than 15 years. George and his brother Michael established
O’Connell Landscape Maintenance in 1971 with $60 cash and a borrowed
truck. They build the business based on quality relationships with each
one of their customers and today employ over 1,200 people. In addition
to Mission Hospital, O’Connell Landscape Maintenance and the O’Connell
Family Foundation support a wide range of community-based organizations
After receiving the award, George challenged event guests and our community
with a $100,000 matching gift. George announced that he will match each
donation given in the next 60 days in support of Mission’s Emergency
Department and Trauma Program up to $100,000. The Emergency Department
and Trauma Program has been a longstanding passion and focus for George.
These matching funds will enable Mission Hospital to purchase two critical
pieces of technology: Mini Fluoroscopy Scanners and Portable Ultra Sound
Machines. These medical technologies allow our clinicians to bring essential
diagnostic equipment to the bedside for prompt diagnosis, eliminating
the need to move critically injured patients.
