What Sets Our Current Cancer Program Apart

Mission Hospital has proudly received the Commission on Cancer (CoC) Accreditation from the American College of Surgeons for demonstrating our commitment to meeting CoC's rigorous standards and improving the quality of care for patients with cancer. When you choose to come to Mission Hospital cancer center, you can also rest assured you are receiving quality, compassionate care. We have received the Outstanding Achievement Award, which is the highest honor available to non-academic hospital cancer programs.

Our radiation therapy department has a state-of-the-art linear accelerator and treatment planning computers. The Leonard Cancer Institute also provides a diagnostic MRI treatment that can detect tumors in areas not routinely found in biopsy or other examination procedures. This MRI has proven to be a highly effective tool in diagnosing and treating prostate cancer. With our advanced services, certified and highly trained staff, and state-of-the-art therapies, we are able to meet the needs of oncology patients and their families at the Leonard Cancer Institute.

Genetic Testing

Genetic testing looks for specific mutations in a person's chromosomes. The mutation may be harmful as well as may increase the chance of a person developing cancer in a person's chromosomes, genes or proteins. Mutations that are harmful may increase a person's chance, or risk, of developing a disease such as cancer which is why we offer genetic testing at Mission Hospital.

Cancer Rehabilitation

In addition to our impressive services, certified staff, and technologies, our staff is trained in the latest oncology rehab care. Moreover, it includes the implementation of research based protocols that have been proven to assist and help cancer survivors enjoy a more optimal healing process. This means:

  • We are committed to offering complete care that is covered by health insurance
  • We are focused on helping our cancer patients reach peak recovery
  • We help any survivor in need, whether at the start, middle, end, or post treatment
  • We are medical experts at the top of our fields in a variety of disciplines
  • We make sure to always look at the big picture of your health
  • We create personalized rehab plans for patients that include an interdisciplinary approach

You can rest easy knowing you will receive quality and reliable medical guidance, encouragement, support, and training every step of the survivorship program when you come to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo or Laguna Beach.

Collaborative Approach to Cancer Care

Mission Hospital collaborative approach to cancer care through the Mission Hospital Cancer Conference—only program of its kind in Orange County—encourages patient participation and examination in the treatment planning process. This enables a highly trained multidisciplinary team to develop a complete picture of you as an individual, uniquely addressing your specific circumstances. The conference empowers doctors to provide optimal treatment recommendations and allows patients to experience more personalized care.

Lymphedema Program

The Lymphedema Program provides education, preventive strategies, and therapy for breast cancer patients. The program begins after surgery with preventive exercise instruction that helps decrease the risk of developing lymphedema. When treatment is required, our therapists create a comprehensive exercise and occupational therapy program to meet your needs.
