CHOC Children's at Mission Hospital

Mission Hospital is proud to partner with CHOC Children's. Located on the 5th floor of the Mission Hospital patient care tower, CHOC Children's at Mission Hospital is part of CHOC Children's regional health care network and operates as a separately licensed pediatric facility with its own medical staff, including pediatric subspecialists, registered nurses and child life specialists.

CHOC Mission is the only dedicated facility for pediatrics in South Orange County, the surrounding coastal areas and north San Diego county.

The excellent pediatric physicians at CHOC Mission are dedicated to providing the highest level of care possible for children, from newborns to teenagers. CHOC'S emphasis on exceptional treatment combined with family-oriented care helps families get back to enjoying life together.

CHOC Children's at Mission Hospital services include:

  • Medical / Surgical Unit

This unit is designed for children who need to be hospitalized while receiving care for an illness, injury or surgery.

  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Our pediatric critical care physicians and nurses are fully capable of caring for critically ill or injured children, including those who require heart and lung monitoring or who are recovering from a trauma such as an automobile accident, illness or major surgery.

  • Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

CHOC Mission features a Level 3 NICU where we provide critical care for infants. Our neonatal care teams are able to be present during high-risk births at Mission Hospital. Among the full spectrum of neonatal equipment available, CHOC Mission is the first children’s hospital in California to offer the NICVIEW webcam system, allowing families to see real-time, live video of their infant remotely, from anywhere they can log on to the Internet.

  • Inpatient Epilepsy Monitoring Unit

Our state-of-the art Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at CHOC Mission is used to evaluate a child’s brain activity and behavioral activity for an extended period of time, in order to make an epilepsy diagnosis. Four private inpatient rooms are equipped with long-term EEG and video monitoring, and are staffed by registered EEG technologists who monitor patients continuously.

  • Sleep Study Unit

The Sleep Center at CHOC Mission offers private, comfortable accommodations and the latest technology to conduct routine sleep studies for children who have problems related to sleep. Each of the unit’s three rooms includes custom light control, a flat screen TV, a bed for mom or dad, and unique artwork that showcases Southern California beaches to promote a soothing, calm environment. The Sleep Center is staffed by the same qualified team as the CHOC Sleep Disorder Center in Orange, including trained sleep technologists and board-certified pediatric neurologists and pulmonologists.

  • Child Life Program

Child life specialists provide patients and their siblings with age-appropriate support to help minimize the anxiety they might be experiencing and help them understand diagnoses and medical treatments.

  • Ronald McDonald Family/Sleep Room

Through a partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities, CHOC Mission features the Ronald McDonald Family Room and Sleep Room. Accommodations allow families to take a break and relax, or gather to discuss their child’s progress. Parents of critical care patients may use the individual sleep rooms and shower accommodations to stay the night with their child in the hospital.
