Endomyocardial Biopsy

This is a biopsy of the heart tissue inside the heart. The procedure involves placement of a catheter through a vein in the neck or groin area while the mildly sedated patient is lying on a table. The catheter is advanced through the vessel into the heart with the assistance of x-ray pictures. Samples of the heart tissue are removed and examined for evidence of abnormalities by a tiny scoop on the end of the catheter. The cardiologist will send the samples for review at any issues with the tissue. The procedure takes less than one hour.
