Holter monitoring is a painless way to record your heartbeat while performing
routine daily activities while at home or work. It is a small battery-operated
EKG recorder carried over your shoulder. The device is the size of a cell
phone. When attaching the recorder, your technician places small pads
(electrodes) on your chest. Your chest will be alcohol wiped clean of
oils and might need to be shaved to remove any chest hair. You need to
keep the device on for at least 24 to 48 hours and complete a diary.
- Try to sleep on your back.
- Do not take a shower. A sponge bath is okay.
- Do not avoid stress, work or exercise.
Return the recorder to the hospital for an analysis. Your test results
will be discussed during your next doctor's visit.
