Features at Our Maternity Center
Baby Friendly Designation
As a certified Baby Friendly™ Hospital, we are a member of a global
program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United
Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to encourage and recognize hospitals
that offer an optimum level of care for lactation. This designation is
quite an honor, as only 243 U.S. hospitals and birthing centers in 46
states and the District of Columbia hold the Baby Friendly designation.
Studies find that when Doulas are present at birth, women have shorter
labors, fewer medical interventions, fewer cesareans, healthier babies
and breastfeed longer. Learn more about the

Heart Screening for Newborns
This March of Dimes initiative began at Mission Hospital on July 1, 2013
and provides mandatory screening for all newborns to identify critical
congenital heart disease. Within the first nine days of screening, we
identified our first critical case of congenital heart disease. Our goal
is to help provide early medical care and solutions for these infants.
