Mission Hospital and AccessOC Bring Positive Change to Patients

Mission Hospital Laguna Beach Eye Surgery Saturday

In partnership with AccessOC, Mission Hospital Laguna Beach provided 16 pterygium and cataract eye surgeries to low income patients on Saturday, January 28th.

One patient that received surgery was Araceli. Araceli suffered with a left eye nasal pterygium for three years which is commonly referred to as a benign growth of the conjunctiva, and grows from the nasal side of the eye. This condition affected Araceli with many daily life tasks, such as driving and working, when her vision became obstructed due to irritation and redness. Araceli was seen at her local clinic, Camino Health Center, where she was diagnosed with pterygium. Due to lack of insurance and financial resources, Araceli was referred to AccessOC who scheduled her to see Dr. Faris Ghosheh who performed her surgery.

We thank AccessOC for the sacred opportunity to extend our mission of continually improving the health and quality of life of the people in our community. We also thank our hardworking physicians, nurses, techs and interpreters that contributed to the success of this day.
